This election is likely going to be looked back on as the point when things became completely untenable in the 21st century. The American empire will implode, billions will suffer, the climate emergency will accelerate to maximum, and geopolitical dynamics will become incredibly unstable. Shit is about to go fully awry. This was it, and the people who are already bored about it have played no small part in getting us here.

After 10 years, there will be no megafauna looking back at anything. We extincted ourselves and the planet. By far the stupidest species is us, and the IQ test was whether we could just not kill ourselves with our own waste. There’s a species of insect in Africa that’s lived on 1 rock for thousands of years and they are smarter than us in this regard.

We passed 7 of 9 planetary boundaries. We don’t talk about this or even the possible election interference that occurred because our media and journalism is broken. I can see personal videos on people’s personal accounts of the flooding in Spain, yet media in the US is failing to report extensively on this especially as a climate disaster. People literally believe that the government controls the weather before they believe that climate change is real (and please make sure to attribute all the increasingly bad disasters under Trump to him specifically).

I have had conversations about why basic rights are necessary. Conversations where I’m citing the fucking constitution and posting videos of speeches from the fucking 60s. I have to explain why ableism is bad.

Fascism is, frankly, part of the human collective psyche. It’s akin to an autoimmune response, so much so that there’s biochemical markers* in common with both states. The only way to calm down fascism is either let it eat itself (aka lots of death), or to be a collective anti-inflammatory. This means looking at things like Buddhist ideals of detachment and peace, Muslim ideals of charity (they invented the first hospitals which were free), Christian ideals of gathering together. Soothe and redirect (like a toddler) people who engage in inflammatory and violent speech. Win people over (being othering and exclusive is inflammatory - saying you can’t stand Trump voters is inflammatory and part of why those Trump people like Trump and Christianity - they include the deplorables).

And btw if political structures are akin to lymphatic system, journalism and communications are our nervous system. Just like in the body, one can attack and modify the other - our autoimmune response has severely damaged our nervous system and we kinda have the societal equivalent of relearning from a stroke in some ways.

*So much so that often a key dogwhistle for fascist speech is othering someone by calling them a tumor, parasite, cancer. Biochemicals responsible - low oxytocin (which is why they are pedophiles), histamine, mast cells, cortisol draining. See the undereye wasting of people in high stress including that little boy who was lost in the woods and in meth addicts

Nice. They were a troll who started an account 2 months before the election and began immediately flooding lemmy with an average of 82 posts/comments each day. Just about everything they posted was encouraging people to vote third party.

After piles of complaints, the account was finally banned two weeks ago. Besides shilling for Stein, they also were a prolific sealion, knowing exactly how to piss everyone off to the greatest extent while “not breaking rules” (they absolutely broke the rule against trolling, constantly). Mods pretended this was simply a matter of a “shitty opinion” but when the outcry reached its climax, they finally banned the fuck.

Often when tenants lose keys to a deadbolt, a shady landlord or superintendent will say the knob lock is “good enough” to avoid paying to have the deadbolt replaced. Consequently, tenants might install their own deadbolts.

You might ask, why not just replace the existing lock!? Well, the super is going to call a locksmith to do that, and the locksmith can charge more for installing a new lock rather than replacing the old one. Plus, an extra lock when everyone’s is home for the evening == extra security.

            https://www.factcheck.org/2023/08/what-trump-asked-of-pence/

“I think it’s important that the American people know what happened in the days before January 6,” Pence said. “President Trump demanded that I use my authority as vice president presiding over the count of the Electoral College to essentially overturn the election by returning or literally rejecting votes. I had no authority to do that.”

For those who might doubt him, Pence urged them to “read the indictment.”

Pence is featured prominently throughout the 45-page indictment, but there are seven and a half pages that specifically deal with “The Defendant’s [Trump’s] Attempts to Enlist the Vice President to Fraudulently Alter the Election Results at the January 6 Certification Proceeding.”

Dec. 23, 2020: Trump retweeted (and later deleted) a memo titled “Operation ‘PENCE’ CARD,” which, the indictment states, “falsely asserted that the Vice President could, among other things, unilaterally disqualify legitimate electors from six targeted states.”

“Pence then gavels President Trump as re-elected.”

Dec. 25, 2020: When Pence called Trump to wish him a Merry Christmas, Trump requested that Pence reject electoral votes on Jan. 6. Pence responded, as he had in previous conversations, “You know I don’t think I have the authority to change the outcome.”

No. No, we can’t “move on” from the election, because elections have consequences. We will never be able to “move on” because we will be continuously fucked by those consequences, in the ass with no lube, for the rest of our lives.

Even if Trump and the GOP give up power and the US holds free and fair elections in four years, an absolute fuck-ton of permanent damage will have been done in the meantime.

There are so many things at stake, but people really don’t know how bad Trump’s supreme court has fucked the environment already. Getting the average voter to care about it won’t happen until it’s far too late. I try to just not think about it.

Like, what exactly? States are still moving forward with their climate change plans. The states who aren’t, have a very small impact and are largely canceled out by those who do. Deportations will likely go up, support for Ukraine will likely evaporate, but the impact to citizens inside of the US are largely unchanged. The economy isn’t going to change course, and we’ve been getting fucked in the ass with no lube by all of our administrations going back to Reagan. The ceiling isn’t falling, it’s been fallen for quite some time.

Project 2025 is now in play. Abortion ban, porn ban, removal of federal employees who aren’t “loyal” enough. The only saving grace is that Republicans can’t govern for shit, so there’s going to be a lot of wasted time on infighting. Not enough, though, since a lot of it can be pushed through by the president alone.

Oh! And the oldest, most conservative SCOTUS justices will retire, solidifying the conservative super-majority on the court for the next 20-40 years. The only way to change that is to change the makeup of the court, which requires a trifecta. So yes, it isn’t the end of the world, but it isn’t “no big deal” either.

In order to undo the damage, we have to fundamentally change the Democrat Party to be just as far left as the Republicans have moved right. And that took them over a decade to accomplish (and they have the easier task, since big business wants both parties to move right).

In think the democrats moving far left is what caused them to lose at least in part. The swing voters are what matters. The Trump and Republican really pushed a down to Earth approach which resonated will a lot of people on the fence. Your hard core left and right are going to vote predictably.

The good news is that the Democrat party will have plenty of time to think about it.

There are many countries in the world that have dealt with serious problems before Trump was ever elected, would have still dealt with those problems if Kamala won the election, and will continue to face these problems after Trump’s term.

You’re speaking from your high seat of privilege ignorant of the happenings in other places. What gives you the right to tell me how my life is going to be affected because of this. Like Kamala was some fucking Messiah that would have rid the world of all its problems.

When have we had someone with a worse agenda than Project 2025? When was the last time someone threatened to become a dictator in this country? When was the last time the president who advocates for the encampment of all “illegals” was given the house, senate, and courts, allowed to do whatever they wanted with their cult of personality following their every whim? What the fuck kind of presidents do you think we’ve had previously?!?
