Why is it that autistic people prefer bland processed food sometimes? I’m pretty sure my brother, who is not diagnosed, is autistic and he went like eight years only eating microwaved pizzas and microwaved pizza-adjacent products.

for me autism contains a form of neophobia, the aversion to new things. this food is the edible pendant to a comfy couch, that formed its cushions around you, because you sit in it all day the same.

Autism affects how senses are processed, and taste is a sense - some autistic people don’t want things that are strong or that vary a lot, preferring consistency instead.

With that being said, it’s not a universal thing, different people are affected differently.
