  • Both Buddhism and Taoism have some really good aspects. I would say they are philosophies and not religions and probably not in the context of a “faith” for this post. (If someone else wants to consider Buddhism a religion, you go right ahead. I won’t argue but assume I silently disagree.)

I am absolutely atheist, but still having some guiding principles is still important. If a concept sounds good and seems like it has good intentions I’ll just add it to my collection, discarding any pointless rituals or “magic”.

Doing good things makes me feel good and I like feeling good. I say that it’s ok borrow from any ideology that has well intentioned principles.

I’ll add the disclaimer that the term “good” is subjective and I still had to learn what “good” means to me over the years. Buddhism and Taoism have always been aligned with the way I perceive life and are decent enough to extrapolate what the word “good” should mean.

Am I dual faith? No. If we ever get in a deep discussion about core ideals, there are going to be similar concepts I share with many religions, though.

  • What kind of American, is my question. For larger sub-types, we have the great state of Canadia up north, Texas in the south, Mexico in the south-south, then and then the Panama canal, that splits us from Antarctica. (The rest is just volcanoes and rain forest; Not even worth mentioning, really.)

In the Murica, we have about 50 states, each with their own ideology, culture, food, language, road system, religion, insurance policies and vehicle preferences. By far, the biggest ideological differences spawn from if you fight for Carl’s Jr. or Hardee’s. We kinda have Alaska, Puerto Rico and Hawaii, but I need to check the books on that.

Texas is by far the most independent. Unless there is a hurricane, measles outbreak, electricity shortage or need for other commodities from the other bastard states… They will temporarily join the Union followed by absolute denial that they need the rest of the states for anything. So completely independent and we should be scheduling our next civil war shortly, but the forms for that got lost by the USPS which is yet another service they have never needed.

But yeah, we have a million different sub-cultures here is my point. It might be easier to call us out by car type, TBH. The differences between a Ford/Chevy-American and say, a Honda or Tesla-American are very telling. The Tesla-Americans are going through a transition now, so we can put them off to the side.

So, with all of that, bunching us all up as “THE muricans” is really silly. Most of us can’t afford the trip through the Rockies to mix and mingle with rumored the California and the Washington anyway. (Those “states” don’t even exist to me.)

  • Some people I have worked with at big box stores don’t give two shits and they could probably use a bit more training themselves.

You are correct about the people at my range though. We can spot someone easily who has no training and has never been around a firearm. (It’s a private range, and all of us are basically the “range master”.) We kinda go out of our way to ensure range safety and provide education regardless if we were asked for it or not.

Also yes, I have known people that have zero training or experience that have bought a firearms with no questions asked and no advice given. It’s a thing, unfortunately. When stupid people do stupid things, they tend to migrate to places that are equally as stupid that will sell them a firearm regardless as long as a background check clears.

While I do have appreciation for your specific wording, I just have seen a ton of stupid shit, s’all.

  • Your first paragraph checks out, but it’s absolutely possible to buy a gun with no training or experience but that may depend on your state combined with the type of firearm you are getting.

I am not sure where you are getting that “theoretical” bit. It’s not theory.

It generally only gets a bit more difficult when you want a concealed carry license.
