Ask why? don’t just stay with oil companies PR talk points. Nuclear is expensive because innovation has been artificially stifled. A huge part of this, is the insistence to forbid newer designs and more modern improvements, and instead force new plants to use old technologies and models that rely on on-site bespoke construction, as well as arcane and arbitrary administrative processes. Nuclear power is expensive (in the US), because it was made expensive by refusing it all the factors that typically reduce costs of technologies. Nuclear power never got to take advantage of the things that made solar and wind power cheaper, because oil companies lobbied with a shit ton of money to prevent it.

It doesn’t matter though. Nuclear power could’ve help us survive climate change…40 years ago. It’s too late now anyways. Even if we covered the whole planet with solar power and stopped every single combustion engine in existence, we are already on the way to living in a hellscape. We must focus on survival of the species now.

The argument I’m replying to is a classic “not perfect, thus not worth it”. Its disingenuous and it calls for disingenuous reply. We are also pursuing renewables in despite of their political and technical flaws. The point is that all the flaws that OP exposes about nuclear power also applied to renewables (at one point in history solar power was 10x more expinsive than nucluar) and also to oil. They are status quo defending arguments designed to halt thought, paralyze action and scoff change. Just because it isn’t perfect doesn’t mean it isn’t better.

That’s an awful take. Most of the whales and people caught in the casinos who suffer the highest financial loses are neurodivergent or people with mental illnesses, kids with their parents credit card, the elderly and overall the most vulnerable to manipulation. Those are the people that the gambling mechanics specifically aim for.

It means nothing, it’s just a paycheck you sign and then you get to say “I certify my OS is Unix”. The little bit more technical part is POSIX compliance but modern OSs are such massive and complex beasts today that those compliances are tiny parts and very slowly but very surely becoming irrelevant over time.

Apple made OSX Unix certified because it was cheap and it got them off the hook from a lawsuit. That’s it.

Bazzite comes with wine all setup by default. KDE’s file managerl can integrate running exe with wine on a default prefix automatically.

Most distributions and DEs already package wine in a set it and forget it configuration. Wine by default has a system wide prefix such that clicking on any exe in the file system automatically runs it on the default prefix. This way of doing things predates wsl by a long time. It is just safer and better practice to setup a new prefix for every software, specially if they are games.

Settings live in user space. Software exist in containers like AppImage, Flatpak or Distrobox. If something need deep system integration, they can be layered on top of the system in the user layer. Immutable does NOT mean less control. Just exerting control over the system in a different, usually more systematic, automatic and deterministic way.

Not here. This is not linux desktop share where every actor is an independent agent and all options are viable. Xorg is developed by the same people doing Wayland, and they decided Xorg is dead and will only receive security updates. I agree that Wayland compatibility is still not fully mature. But unfortunately for all those devs the upgrade window is moving fast and eventually their software will be left behind unless they change to Wayland. At this point Xorg is not even the default anymore.

A good friend liked to go to these kind of rhetorical legal battles with the school and the dress code. It was hilarious. She used neon green hair for three months due to a weird wording on some rule or another about colored hair. They removed the ancillary dress code, uniform was still mandatory but anything beyond the basic four pieces of clothing students would be free as long as it wasn’t nudity or disrupted other students. Skirts were made optional, the origin of the whole conflict. In return she was just asked to stop trying to give the poor principal a heart attack (an old conservative religious hag).

She still wore colorful stuff and accessories after that. But at least she wasn’t in heated arguments during detention everyday anymore. She wanted to abolish uniform altogether but in a way she sort of won.

It cannot integrate with or handle existing VoIP services, receive or answer phone calls, handle land and cellular switches and terminals, and it cannot route or transfer calls (audio or video) automatically. It doesn’t handle automated away time messages or rerouting, auto-replys to chat, it cannot serve users external of the organization. And those are only the few things I use daily, sure there must be many more things that Skype can do an Teams just doesn’t because it’s a slack and zoom hybrid. It just doesn’t fit the role Skype has in my org and it’s why we continue to run both together until the very second the Skype servers are finally shut down.

Corporate, companies that bought all-in into MS ecosystem. Which is weird that they added this to the mobile client as Skype for business is ending support in 2025, it’s supposed to be replaced by Teams, which it not ready BTW. So, I don’t know what any of these is supposed to do, perhaps just rake in more data before the service dies for good?
