  • There’s a difference between engrossing yourself in another culture and being actively hostile to another person or culture.

The kind of people I’m talking about are those that get offended on behalf of a culture they’re not a part of, for someone simply participating in that cultures traditions.

They’re not out there actively mocking, attacking, or otherwise demeaning that culture, it’s traditions, or it’s people.

    The difference is malicious intent.

Bullies have malicious intent in spades.

People wearing the garb of a culture they were not born into, do not.

This. The social Justice warriors that are peddling the cultural appropriation line are not representative of the culture or the people of that culture, their opinions, or feelings on the matter.

What we, as a society, need to do, is let cultures be offended when they feel offended, and not assume that they will be offended by something that we think they should be offended by.

Short version is: don’t be offended on behalf of someone else.

You don’t know them. You don’t know their culture. You don’t know what they see as offensive.

    Stop assuming you do.

  • Ooh. Me, me, me… I am.

The government doesn’t work for you. You vote then in, sure, but they work for the lobbyists of large corporate interests.

Any policy you want will only pass if the corporations want it to, or they don’t believe it will make a substantive difference in their ability to exploit your labor for profit, and take from you every dime, nickel, and dollar they can. They’ll only keep you happy enough to not revolt, and beyond that, you’re entirely fucked from all angles.

Ehh. They mostly rode the coattails of the boomers. I dunno if I can reasonably get angry at them for taking advantage of the opportunity that the boomers made for them to prosper.

It’s the boomers that own, and frequently still run the companies that are ruining the economy. That’s for fucking sure. Gen x just got a free ride.

Of all the people I know, the Gen x are the most likely to just be coasting through life because they were downright given all the opportunities and never really struggled for much.

  • I’ll say this. If any of those people represented in the ad exist, they can afford the medication that’s being sold by the ad.

Those are the people who buy the things that people say “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it” about.

You all forget, there’s legions of people who are wealthy, but not the ultra rich. They bring in millions of dollars a year. Far more than you or I possibly could, but they’re not notable because they’re part of the 1% and the 0.1% are much much worse.

What they don’t get, is that their wealth is closer to the bottom 99% than the top 0.1%. they should be on our side, but they won’t get involved because they’re a bunch of fence sitting assholes that just do enough to keep up their lifestyle, but not so much that anyone notices.

I love taking my twice graduated college educated ass to job postings for my field and being offered $60k CAD for highly skilled work that requires both a bachelor’s and about 5-10 years of experience to pay for my $40-50k worth of education. It’s great!

I’ve been in the job market for a while and apart from not having a bachelors degree, I have most of the certifications and experience needed. But I did the math, I am unable to afford my bills (excluding things like fuel for my car and food for the table) on anything less than around $65-70k. I don’t ask for much for everything else, but I generally need at least $75k a year to survive without starving or going bankrupt.

Life is expensive and it keeps getting more expensive, but the wages I saw posted over 10 years ago when I graduated, are the same wages I see now for the same or similar work. Since the cost of everything has increased significantly over that time, I just move on to other job postings.

Don’t mention salary in the post? I’m not interested. Don’t have an option for full time remote? No thanks. I don’t want to spend hours of my life every week in traffic, spending hundreds of dollars a month on fuel, just so you can look me in the face and say “you look tired”… Yeah, because I’m forced to be here and I’m not able to do this work from home.

What is the difference if I go to the office and use these online/cloud tools, versus doing the same from home? I don’t understand.

    I remember stuff quite confidently.

I always say “if I remember correctly” both as “cover my ass” and also, bait for anyone who subscribes to “alternative facts”.

I usually won’t bother correcting you if you try to correct me, I’ll just let you be wrong.

They don’t need AI for this.

I recall that at least one website was having a transparent object follow the cursor around with a link to an ad in the invisible window. No matter where you clicked, ad.

Why waste all the electricity on trying to predict it, when you can get the same effect by simply snapping the ad link right to the cursor in a transparent window.
