In the Netherlands he is known as Guust Flater, in French as Gaston…Guust being a part of a bigger Dupuis ‘universe’
Hergé, the father of Tintin: “Next to him ( Franquin) I am but a poor illustrator”
Franquin took the comic to art level. The way he was able to draw movement has no equal, for example.
If you want to have your mind blown, read the “Ideés Noires”, an adult oriented strip, black on white, (hence the ñame), created while he was under severe depression. I think Goya would have approved.
Can’t find anything Dutch from his Ideés Noir, but it really sucks I learn now he suffered severe depression. I known how it feels like, unsafe childhood.
Guust is far gone from this one…
Gaston Lagaffe! Woof, what a shot of nostalgia. Don’t think I’ve seen one of those strips since high school
I think I’ve read most of the volumes back when I was a kid. And this page doesn’t do it justice. Even the meta jokes are awesome (it takes place in the same publishers office where the comic was actually made)
Wasn’t he same behind Spirou also?
Yes.
