No, they’re not.
Don’t equate those two tiny organisations to the ridiculously wealthy and powerful companies like Alphabet, Apple and so on.
Exactly, this feels like one of those things you see in politics where someone claims that because one group is slightly bad then they’re just as bad as the incredibly bad obviously evil alternative. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good, and don’t get the doomers drag you down to their level!
Mozilla made layoffs and budget cuts to their non-profit foundation. Actions speak louder than words, and I’m not holding my breath.
Right. It’s just that Mozilla gets a lot of money from … checks notes … facepalm. So they’re worse!
So that Google is the default search engine in Firefox. … Which you can easily change.
Oh no… they’re such an evil big tech company!!1!! /s smh
They are very good reasons to criticize Mozilla and Proton. Just not these.
Challenge: Lemmy users must express their shared interests separably from their politics. Difficulty: impossible
Oh no, people who are enthusiastic about privacy and open source don’t want to support fascists! How can it be so?
Let’s be realistic; afaik there’s no realistic alternative to Firefo(rk)x or any of the Chromium flavors. Also, expecting the 1% to behave any differently would be naive.
This wouldn’t be the first time we’re in a bleak place where it comes to our digital landscape, hopefully we’ll be in a better place soon.
Years of developement required for things like https://github.com/jaytaph/gosub-browser to function properly. Damn browsers are such heavy peice of softwares
Wait… what happened to proton? I just signed up…😩
CEO endorsing Trump regime.
JFC CAN JUST ONE COMPANY I PAY MONEY TO NOT TURN OUT TO BE A NIGHTMARE.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Medium had an article exploring this a bit further, and while his tweet taken on its own does seem to endorse trump’s pick for assistant attorney general (and also some republican policies historically), the author concludes that it’s far more likely that he’s a liberal and just had praise for the one specific action as it relates to big tech vs little tech. https://medium.com/@ovenplayer/does-proton-really-support-trump-a-deeper-analysis-and-surprising-findings-aed4fee4305e
Hardly
Nothing. Internet hysteria about a single fucking tweet from the wrong account.
You can get a refund within a certain period (30 days?) of signing up.
I still use firefox ( and any fork of it ) rather than use any differently coloured chromium ( including brave, their ceo does not have a good reputation too )
I understand that Brave is a very good browser, from a technical standpoint, but it just feels annoying. For one, the constant crypto advertisement is a real turn off.
Firefox is also the only real mobile browser that lets me have extensions, so I can use stuff like uBlock or BypassPaywall.
Yeah in the terms of Bullshitification, firefox is still far of any chromium stuff.
I will never forget what brave did with their crypto sh*t in their browser.
Either you take the easy way and try to be sustainable my making deals with… let me check… Google (and now selling users’ data), or you try to be creative, although not perfect.
You coule give Fennec a try, its basicly Firefox without the questionable bits
… how are those two big tech?
By what measure?I haven’t heard… What’s going on with Proton?
The ceo has made some favourable comments about trump’s pick then used the official proton account to double down on it and are now moving away from Mastodon due to the faced criticisms.
Ah, I thought it’s about Valve’s Proton 😅
They also promote cryptoscams.
Aw, gross… I’m not that surprised. I like their product though… Better value than Google, which is also authoritarian 🤷🏻♀️
Their are other European competitors that actually support open standards and most support GPG encryption of incoming emails so you are not stuck with them. And for storage nextcloud supports e2e encryption. Proton was always a tech-bro designed trap.
The CEO love to gargle on Trump balls.
